10:54 am - I can't believe it.

I know I have seen the show multiple times but it still upsets me at the ending.

It would of been nice to see him with his bowl once last time.
A real trouper!

I'd hope to cosplay this great character soon and be allowed to ask Greg, "Was Heihachi-dono fun to voice as?"

6:41 pm - More fine-tuning of the cosplay

Found these aviator gloves at http://www.garciaaviation.com/products-page/gloves/raf-1941-pattern-slant-zip-flying-guantlets/

Pricey at $50 but really wanted them and easier than trying to sew a pair or modifying the welding gloves. A pair of mediums were a tad big for my hands, but the gauntlet parts come up almost to my elbows! Now I need to find some decent boots, I like the UGG-type boots super comfortable to walk in, but maybe at some point will get other boots.

Also want to re-do the earmuff bits on the cap at some point to give them a larger oval shape.

3:23 pm - Fanime 2011 'theme'

The theme at Fanime 2011 (at least in terms of the advertising artwork and also a cosplay gathering) is 'steam-punk'. I'll wear my Heihachi cosplay. I read an article where someone mentioned the steam-punkish feel to Samurai 7, so I think the cosplay will fit right in. I really need to work on the goggles, though, to replace the green lenses with orange ones. Plus the rice bowl did not last (went moldy) so I need to re-think that.

By the way, here's a link to the Instructables site. Someone post instructions for making this cool shutter (the creator called it an aperture):

Here's a link to making your own corset:

9:08 pm - happy cosplay!

Okay, so here is the outfit I wore to Fanime-Con, San Jose, CA this past Memorial Day weekend: Hayashida Heihachi from Samurai 7 (for those of you who aren't familiar with the series, since this post is going public).

explanations hereCollapse )

by the way, that's a wig ha ha, and I inserted half of a foam bowl into a plastic bowl, and then glued uncooked rice on it.

9:26 pm - at least the vest is almost finished ...

I almost said 'finished' but then I remembered I need to attach the epaulets at the shoulders and the strap for the blade on the back pocket. I fully expect that I'll be ready by Memorial Day weekend (Fanime Con, San Jose, CA).

I've decided to attach the sleeves directly to the vest because I hate wearing layers. I'll add a fake turtleneck. I can't remember where the pieces for the waist section went to, I remember cutting them out and then putting the material in a bag, but where the hell did the bag go to? Oh, well, I'll find it ... Oh, and I've almost decided on just using the goggles I bought at a convention last year, the goggles are brown but the lenses are green, not amber/orange/brown. I'll google instructions for making my own goggles and see where that leads. :-)

7:40 pm - gloves

My bro found some gloves I can probably use at the Harbor Freight Tools shop in Vallejo, CA for 5 bucks. Beats having to sew them myself since I've been unable to find a pair. These are some (really) inexpensive welding gloves.

7:46 pm - long time no see

gomen nasai for not posting more often but really nothing to report on the cosplay for Hei-Chan. meant to do some this holiday weekend and set my alarm for 9am. had a weird dream about being at a wedding for some friends of mine, woke up and thought: wait, they're already married ... wtf. was about to go back to sleep and remembered a different friend was getting married today and I'm supposed to be there at 11am. waaah!! two hours to wash up, get dressed, then drive out to the church. made it in time, the wedding ceremony was very nice, a small wedding since it's her second marriage. took a few pictures then back home to eat breakfast/lunch and then do some work I brought home from the office. final result, no sewing today.

meh. hope everyone else is having a fabulous holiday and relaxing time off.

6:21 pm - posting just because

oh, I think I've posted like that before. hurt my leg which has affected my psyche (is that the word?) so have not felt like doing any sewing or craft work or anything. meh. made a new avatar but that's about it. a friend is visiting for the weekend, good thing she and my brother were able to get around and sightsee yesterday, because today was pretty much wasted. we watched a couple of films at the house (the original Thing from Another Planet, classic with Kenneth Tobey; El Dorado with John Wayne) then did a little bit of shopping, pick up some manga and snacks then back home. oh, stopped by the Ichiban Kan shop not too far away, whenever I shop there or at Daiso I make sure to buy a small sauce dish because they're cuuuute. I use 'em for shoyu and wasabi when we have sushi/sashimi at home, or for hot sauce (ymmm). I have quite a collection at home now.

7:17 pm - new avatar

But no further progress on the outfit. Flying out on business Sunday morning so nothing doing for another week (well, I guess I could try packing part of it to work on at night AFTER working ha ha ha).

Well, what would Heihachi do?

Halloween coming up, won't be home to hand out candy awww. Have a safe one, everyone!

2:11 am - interested?

still working on the outfit, spent most of today on the vest but did not seem to make any headway although it is relaxing (and yet stressful) for me when I sew. I just want to recommend Make magazine, makezine.com and instructables.com for those of you who would like to be more Heihachi-inclined. It's fun reading and hopefully inspiring for you tinkerers. Be careful and enjoy!!

4:44 pm - slow going today ...

But sewed some, washed the shirts and will start cutting them tonight. Have a new avatar yay! There's a surplus shop (some military stuff, some camping) near me, stopped in today to see if there was anything that caught my fancy but nothing except a camping pot did. They carry some old uniforms (a nice dark green sweater with the German flag on each arm just below the shoulder) and outfits, pants, boots, hats, caps, gloves. Some flying caps that I looked at hard to see if I could figure out the pattern for sewing.

I have goggles I picked up a few months ago but I need to figure out how to replace the green lenses for orange ones.

Chichirifreak: How did you do the grommets at the bottom hem of Hei-chan's outfit? I have only seen the ones that are about the size of a quarter.

I'll be glad to get back to work, it's been a long weekend.

11:38 pm - new idiot fan

I am a fairly new fan. I purchased the anime for my nephew some time back but did not watch it myself until a few months ago. My mom watched it before I did (shame shame on me!). Heihachi is my favorite samurai whom I hope to cosplay in the future. There is not a lot of merchandise out there for this series (that I've been able to spot in stores or at conventions) but at a con in May I found a booth that had the entire set of the Way of Samurais Figure Collection. Verrrrry nice.

12:10 pm - Hello, brand new Heihachi fan here!
sherry_birkin Hello hello,

My name is Sabrina, but you can call me Mewca. I'm like 19 years old, a fish in college, and I'm very thankful for the Anime Club we have, because that's how I got to watch Samurai 7 and discover the lovely and bubbly Heihachi Hayashida! I havent had a crush on a character since Nataku Taishi from Saiyuki, 3 years ago, and I'm very much excited. I know I'm kinda late, but we have to start somewhere, no matter how late it is, ne?

Heihachi just seems to be that enigmatic character in the background, which everyone assumes immediately that he's a sterotype "smiling all happy Buddhist zen" character, until he goes bezerk and flares up like a torch when someone really pisses him off, and doesn't hesitate to cut them (actually, right after the first time I saw him get mad, I was like "Wow...*hearts*"). There is still so much about him that if we dig deep enough, we can find so much about his personality. I just really think he's a fun and lovely character to keep very close to your heart. I also can't help but adore his constant smile.

I have only started a few fics, and I hope you'll like this one. It's very random, but still warm hearted. Here it is:

Title: Vultures
Author: Mewca
Pairing: (all of them are implied at the moment) Kyu/Hei, Gorobei/Honoka, Roji/Okara, Roji/Kan, Katsu/Kirara, Shino(although one sided)/Hei.
Rating: PG 13
Summary: The women of the village discreetly chase Heihachi, Kyuzo and Shichiroji from behind the bushes. What attempts will the samurais do to keep them away until one of them snaps?
Disclaimer: I don't own Samurai 7.

You little whore!- Oh dear, aren't we all?Collapse )

PS: Pointless, but still,...omK, I can't surf one page on DeviantArt without finding 1000 fanartas of that Tenken dude, and only 1 of the gearhead! I just thought that was curious...DX
